“NO CUBA”/ Violan los Derechos Humanos en Nassau, Bahamas abusa y maltrata a inmigrantes cubanos y de otras parte del mundo. Stop¡¡¡
Muchas personas piensan que los cubanos tienen un trato superior y grato cuando se trata de su proceso migratorio. Piensan que los cubanos y cubanas que tratan de llegar casi siempre a los Estados Unidos pasan una travesía segura y misteriosamente privilegiada. Esto se debe, que de una forma u otra, emigrantes de Latinoamerica y Medio Oriente, saben de la existencia de la llamada “Ley de Ajuste Cubano” y “Los pies secos pies mojados”. Cuando hablamos de cubanos que “huyen de la dictadura” la imagen gráfica es la balsa y el mar, un trayecto lineal de 90 millas. Pero, lo cierto es que la manera de llegar a Estados Unidos varía mucho. Los que pasan por Tierra cruzan un continente entero. La mayoría de las veces desde Ecuador o Bolivia. No sé si saben, pero para llegar a Panamá hay que escalar una montaña gigantesca, exponerse a la guerrilla colombiana, a los paramilitares de la zona. Sobrevivir a Nicaragua y sus militares corruptos, o a la violencia en Pedro de Sula en Honduras. No es tan sencillo, es tan arduo, peligroso, traumático como el resto de las migraciones humanas. Incluso por mar existe una vía de terceros países, República Dominicana caminar hasta Haití... o Bahamas.
Bahamas al estar en el triángulo de poder magnético siempre ha sido mísitico, paraíso turístico, playa, sol y arena. Lo que no saben es que las personas que tratan de emigrar eligiendo esa ruta son torturados, maltratados, violados, abusados. Dentro de los centros de detención para inmigrantes está ocurriendo un grave tragedia. Una decena de cubanos se encuentran en este lugar hace más de seis meses. Han salido a la luz videos, fotografías, testimonios orales, reportajes periodísticos sobre los crímenes y la violación total a los derechos y la dignidad humana. En señal de protestas esos cubanos se ha cocido la boca, ha realizado huelgas de hambres, ha pintado sus camisetas pidiendo que se termine la represión, las mujeres se cortan el cabello y en medio de la violencia a los que se ven sometidos exigen que no los devuelvan a Cuba. Las mujeres y niños están en un estado muy vulnerable, expensos a violaciones sexuales y a vejaciones físicas. Por esta razón y por los sucesos obtenidos estamos armando esta petición, para lograr crear un precedente de ejercicio cívico.
Objetivos.
-Exigimos a la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) que se manifieste antes esta violación latente, permanente, cíclica de los Derechos Humanos acontecidos en Nassau, Bahamas.
-Exigimos que este proceso pueda ser asesorado, apoyado, guiado por “La Agencia de la ONU para Refugiados” ACNUR donde en sus declaraciones asume que “los refugiados, los solicitantes de asilo, los desplazados internos y los apátridas” son su prioridad.
-Exigimos al Gobierno de La República de Cuba se manifieste ante el destino de sus ciudadanos y responda ante su ineptitud, co-participación, complicidad de los abusos allí cometido.
-Exigimos al Gobierno de la Mancomunidad de las Bahamas que abra una investigación seria y comprometida sobre este hecho y hechos anteriores para encontrar culpables, causas y hacer justicia. Del mismo modo que pedimos el apoyo de la Mancomunidad de Naciones a la cual pertenece esta Isla. Y la manifestación de la Reina Isabel II de Inglaterra sobre lo que acontece en su propio territorio.
-Ante que nada esperamos por la caridad y misericordia del Departamento de Estado de Estados Unidos para que determine la condición de refugiados de estos cubanos y permita la entrada de los mismos a este gran país. Ya que solo al Departamento de Estado le corresponde esta decisión.

-Esto sembrará un precedente que dará paso a que los cubanos “flotantes” por Europa, Latinoamérica y el Mundo. Puedan unirse y comprender que un proceso migratorio y más aún, un escape de una dictadura totalitarista, no es un crimen, ni un delito. Si todos logramos que estos cubanos salgan de esa cárcel, que el daño se señala y que lo que está ocurriendo en Bahamas por autoridades abusivas e inhumanas tenga punto final. Podremos comenzar un camino que nos llevará muy lejos.

“NO CUBA”/ Human Rights Violations in Nassau. Bahamas abuses and beats up Cuban immigrants as well as immigrants from other nations. STOP!!
Many people have thought that Cubans have a special superior treatment when it comes to the immigration process. It is thought that Cubans who try to reach The United States soil, go through a mysterious and privileged journey. This is due to the fact that, in many ways, Middle Eastern and Latin American immigrants know of the existence of the “ Cuban Refugee Adjustment Act,” and the “Dry Feet Wet Feet Policy.” When we speak of Cubans fleeing from the dictatorship, what comes to mind is the graphic image of “balseros” or rafters, going through the 90 mile journey to the US. But, the reality is that there are many other ways and routes in use to get to the North. Many immigrants travel through land, crossing an entire continent. In the majority of the time, they go through Ecuador or Bolivia. To reach Panama, the must climb high mountains and expose themselves to the Colombian guerrilla and the dangerous paramilitary in the area. These refugees must survive the violent corrupt military in Nicaragua and the violence of Pedro Sula in Honduras. It is not that simple, it's very difficult, dangerous, and traumatic like the rest of the human migrations. Furthermore, there are sea routes via third countries like the Dominican Republic, Haiti, or The Bahamas.
The Bahamas evokes a sense of mysticism because of its location in the Bermuda Triangle. It has always been a tourist paradise with beautiful beaches. But what many tourists and people don't know, is that the people who use this route to migrate are tortured, beaten, abused and vulnerable to rapes. These cruel tragedy is happening right now inside the Bahamas detention centers. A group of Cubans has been held inside these facilities for more than 6 months. For long periods of time there has been testimonies, videos, photos, and news reports exposing the violation of human rights and human dignity. As a sign of protest, many of the Cuban victims have sewn their lips shut with wires and locks, gone through hunger strikes, paint signs on their shirts asking for the repression to be over, the women have cut their hair off, and in the middle of all this violence, they ask not to be returned to Cuba. The women and children are in a delicate state, vulnerable to rapes and physical violence. Because of this, and the reports obtained, this petition has been made to call for action and civil exercise.
Objectives.
- We demand the United Nations (UN) to manifest before this horrific, cyclical and permanent violence of Human Rights happening in Nassau, Bahamas.
- We demand that this process is supervised, supported, and guided by ”The UN Refugee Agency” UNHCR where they declare that all “refugees, asylum solicitors, people who have been displaced and exiles,” are their priority.
-We demand that the government of The Republic of Cuba takes action on the situation of its citizens and responds before its ineptitude, co-participation, and complicity to the abuses being committed.
-We demand the government of The Bahamas to open a serious and compromising investigation about not just these events, but the crimes committed in past events so that the people responsible be put to justice and we can find the causes for such violence. We ask for support from the Community of Nations present inside the island. We also as for the support of Queen Elizabeth II of England since this is happening inside the territory of her nation.
-We ask for the support and charity of the US State Department to determine the migration conditions of these refugees so they can be accepted into US territory. They are in chargeof dealing in this matters.
Collateral Effects.
- This will lead the way to precedents that will show the “floating” Cubans in Europe, Latin America and the world can be united and comprehend what is a migrating process. Even more, to understand that fleeing or escaping from a totalitarian dictatorship is not a crime. If we can all achieve to free these Cuban refugees from the violent cruel hands of the authorities in the Bahamas, we can go very far.
